World Partnership Walk
The World Partnership Walk took its first strides in 1985, thanks to a group of volunteers from Vancouver's Ismaili Women's Organization Committee. Driven by a desire to give back to the impoverished countries they had grown up in, the group persuaded nearly 1,000 walkers to don their sneakers for the fight against global poverty and raised $55,000.
More than 25 years later, the Walk is held in nine cities across Canada where corporate, individual and team supporters and volunteers have collectively helped to raise more than $50 million in support of international development initiatives, making it the largest and most successful event of its kind in Canada.
All funds raised by the World Partnership Walk (100%) go directly to international development initiatives supported by Aga Khan Foundation Canada – not one cent is spent on administration. These funds support meaningful projects identified and implemented by local communities – projects that revitalize a rural economy, ensure clean water and sanitation, strengthen community-based organizations and educate new generations of girls and women
